Oi Tsuki is a karate strike. Pronounced 'hoya-zuki'. The forward lunging punch of Oi Tsuki, found in many basic karate kata is a traditional style twist punch similar to the Chudan or Jodan Tsuki.
In the Oi Tsuki, the punch is sent out over a leading leg in a lunging motion forward, this provides extended reach when compared to a standard karate punch from a ready stance.
The level of the Oi Tsuki Lunging forward punch can either be aimed at Gedan lower, Chudan Middle or Jodan Upper levels. The technique is often used as a range finding punch and can be followed up by another technique or is quickly retracted for a fast in-out punching sequence.
Remember when performing Oi Tsuki, the lunge must be reached out and punched over a leg that is already in a forward stance such as Zenkutsu Dachi or similar.
