Uchi Uke

Uchi Uke is a karate block. Pronounced 'huchi-huke-key'. Used in many oriental martial art styles such as Shotokan and Goju, the Uchi Uke block is used to protect or deflect attacks to the front of the body from just above the abdomen right up to the level of the chin.

Whilst the Uchi Uke is a single arm block, two arms are used to chamber the technique. Start by bringing your initial blocking arm across your body towards your opposing arm pit. The blocking arm is then brought back across the body with the arm bent at the elbow and your forearm and fist pointing upwards.

At the same time, the opposite arm should also pass across the lower body and the be drawn back to a striking position at the side of the waist. This could be a grabbing application or striking application were instead of soleUy blocking, you are also counter striking your opponent or pulling the attacker inwards to meet the fore.arm of your Uchi Uke technique.
