Polecat Kata

In the Martial Art of Polecat, kata is a very important aspect which helps you both learn the various moves and techniques needed to master the style and also teaches you real skills that can be applied to real life situation should the need for self defense arise.

A Kata is a pattern or sequence of movements, and is often referred to as 'form'. Polecat MMA uses a selection of unique kata or forms which are designed to hone your natural reflexes and skills. Self Defense is at the heart of the kata and most of the kata used represent the fast and powerful motion of the Polecat Style, and is aimed at quickly defeating an opponent so you can end or escape a situation without suffering from any major bodily harm.

Kata San Me Uto

The three San Me Uto kata are collectively based around an advanced Palm Heel strike to the pressure point called the 'Uto', which is situated right between the eyes on the lower forehead, an area often referred to in martial arts as 'the third eye' which is also a literal translation of San Me Uto. All three kata once mastered, should be executed at high speed and in one continues sweep for maximum effect.

When we strike the 3rd Eye, we are trying to utilise two major features, first up is to powerfully strike the pressure point to cause a reaction inside the brain which causes temporary confusion, and secondly when we push or strike an opponent on the front of the forehead, the head will go back and the person will fall over with continued backwards motion applied.

Of course, in real fights this area is hardly ever used simply because most people will fight with their fists only, and smashing your fist into someones forehead will only result in you busting your knuckles up, but with the palm heel strike we can quickly attack this little known pressure point to stun and then quickly manipulate your opponent into a less threatening position.
