The Jab

Jabs are a vital part of any Boxer's arsenal. The Jab is a quick punch that flicks out fast and pulls back faster, giving you a speedy punch that can be used multiple times quickly to attack your opponent.

The Jab is often used to find your range in a fight, in a typical boxing match neither opponents would want to get punched and so a certain level of distance is often maintained. The Jab is a great punch for testing that distance, finding your punching range and reach is often the job of the jab, this prevents each boxer from over commiting or extending themselves into a vulnerable position.

The Jab can be used for attacking your opponents guard and to create an opening, most boxers will spend a lot of their ring time covering up to protect themselves from oncoming punches, the jab is often used to persuade the opponent to move their guard which can then lead to an opening oppertunity for further punches. The main reason the jab is thrown out fast and retracted even faster, is quite simple. The Jab can be used many times but can only be thrown back out if the arm is back in position. Therefor the faster you can throw the jab and retract it, the more punches 'or jabs' that canbe thrown.
