Boxing


Boxing is a Combat Sport between two competitors, the fight usually takes place in a ring over a series of rounds, or in some cases until one of the fighters is victorious. The sport is known to have exsisted for thousands of years with historical evidence of Boxing dating back as far as 2000-BC, and even today the sport is still extremely popular in many countries around the world.

At Mill Hill Dojo, we practice a form of Boxing called Western Polecat Boxing, the style is exclusive to our Dojo and is typically similar to traditional western boxing that you may already be familiar with, the variaton exists only through our own personal interpretation of the techniques.

The Boxing section uses clear and concise beginer friendly instructions and our intuitive explanational videos demonstrates the techniques used in Polecat Boxing in a clear and easy to follow way. The Boxing Training videos includes the four main punches that we use in our Boxing style, the Boxing stance and footwork techniques that we adopt in our system and also a section on how to use the various boxing training equipment that can be found in many Gyms and Boxing halls around the world, including Speedballs, Punchbags, Striking Hook and Jab Pads and of course, Sparing Partners !

In Mill Hill Dojo, our propriertor and manager Mark Brown, as most people will already know is totally blind, to even that balance, all Boxing Sparring practice is done blind folded, this offers a further level of personal expansion while training as you will learn to take advantage of other senses such as hearing, smell and touch. This method also helps to train your defense, eventually making it possible to detect on coming punches without actually seeing them.

The Jab - This is the simple but effective Jab, a tyoe of punch used in Boxing.

The Cross - This punch is used as the heavy hand, a type of Haymaker delivered in Boxing.

The Hook - The Hook is a powerful circular type of punch used in the sport of Boxing.

The Uppercut - This Boxing punch is used to devastate an opponent if used correctly.

Boxing Stance - The Boxing Stance regulates how to move in the ring for power and stability.

Speedball - The Speedball, used to train lightning fast reflexes and coordination.

Punchbags - Punchbags used for training punches, building stamina and strengthing bones.

Sparing - Sparing with a Sparing Partner developes in-ring skills alonside attacking and defense techniques.
