Hip Throw like Judo

Polecat Hip Throw

A simple takedown technique used in the Polecat Martial Arts style is the Hip Throw. The move is slightly different to traditional judo hip throws and this technique can be used as a counter measure from an attackers strike.

Stopping a wild haymaker type punch using the opposing outside arm, the defender then moves quickly to grab the arm of the attacker, while shifting forward to take up shoulder position up inside the armpit area of the opponent. Once you have moved up to adopt the position, simply drop in stance, or sink and at the same time take a short sharp pull on the arm you should hopefully still have secured. The oppoenent should be taken down by the sinking and leverage of the hips upon pulling the outstretched arm.

Keeping hold of the controlled arm then enables you to carry out further attacks such a knee to the bicep of the attackers arm, a sideways on top grappling position, arm bar or any other creative idea such as backing off and concentrating your efforts on a safe escape.
