Heels Together Stance

Musubi Dachi

Musubi Dachi, (pronounced mo-suby-datch) is a straight and upright stance with the Heels together and the toes open at about 45 degrees. Arms should be flat and tightly placed by the side of the body. This stance is used to perform the formal respectful bow of rei.

Musubi dachi is a very important stance in Karate due to the traditional importance of the bowing process in karate.

This position is also used to bow to a partner before kumite starts, also used upon entering the dojo, prior to starting kata and when finishing kata to symbolise the highest level respect you should have for other students, sensei's, the dojo and the karate style in its entirety.
