Kata Sepai

Sepai, the Go Ju Kata is an ancient Buddhist form representing the number 18. This could be interpretated to mean 18 hands but it is sometimes thought to repressent the 18 guards of the king.

THe kata is popular in Monk Boxing, although the form heavily represents White Crane Kung Fu. Sepai uses quite a lot of different techniques for both striking and blocking. The emphasis is based on close quarter grapling like most GoJu forms, however it is important to place emphasis on both the katas calming graceful motions transforming and exploding into a powerful kata, again very typical of the GoJu Style.

Performed here by the Blind Sensei Mark Brown, in his own custom built Mill Hill Dojo karate dojo.
