GKR Kata Hangetsu

Kata Hangetsu, practised here by totally Blind karate instructor Sensei Mark Brown at the Batley Sports and Tennis Center alongside the GKR Northern Zone students in the UK at the 2013 Black Belt Grading.

Hangetsu is dynamic multi opponent kata that uses slow deliberate under tension motions that then quickly explodes in to powerful attacking sequences of punchs, kicks and grabs.

This kata is required to achieve the full Shodan Black Belt rank known as 1st Dan in the Go Kan Ryu syllabus, and despite been a quick kata to learn, true mastery of the form can take a lifetime as like most kata, improvements can always be made in perfecting each and every technique.

Also featured alongside Mark Brown in this video is Sensei Derreck Maitland, a senior karate instructor who assisted Mark with his positioning during the 4 hour long GKR Black Belt Grading.
