Jodan Uke

Jodan Age Uke is a karate block. Pronounced 'jodan-hagy-hookey'. This block is a head level rising block used to protect the chest, throat and head area.

The rising block of Jodan Age Uke is chambered by first placing your forearm and clenched fist across your body just around your rib area. The motion of the arm is then driven upwards past the chest, neck and head to block any strike heading towards these delicate areas on the body.

In the Jodan Age Uke technique, the wrist and forearm are rolled back when the technique is near complete at head level. In the Jodan Uke version of the technique, the arm and wrist does not twist or rotate and the motion is simply straight upwards.

This same motion of technique can also be used as a rising strike or blow to your opponents chin, nose or forehead area of your attacker.
