In April of 2013, 35 year old Mark Brown who is totally blind, has type one insulin dependant diabetes and advanced stage kidney disease achieved a milestone in his life by grading to a full 1st Dan Black Belt in karate.

Mark, who has been without his sight now for 10 years, has been fully commited to his beloved sport of karate for 9 of those dark years and through pure hard work and dedication from both himself and his karate instructors, Senseis and students at his side, Mark defied all odds and logic, finding both the stamina and strength to get through every single grading he has attended and slowly making his way towards the top of the pack at his local karate style.

But the book doesn't stop there with Mark, not content with spending his life sat about been ill after achieving his grade, Mark still trains with the club a coouple of times a week and even instructs a Saturday morning class in the local area, training up students and preparing them for their own journey into the world of Karate. Marks karate instruction can be found in the Karate section on his own MMA-Self Defense website at Mill Hill Dojo which the Blind Sensei is working hard to complete before he becomes too ill to continue due to the dialysis and a possible kidney transplantation.
